Ah, hair-brained ideas and clear madness are the bases of my existence, I can say. I am one of the lead crazies of a band of mismatched, angry, revenge-bent loonies all taking me along for the ride while making me think I'm in charge. I have many "shadow kings" beneath me, tweaking and urging my minions, erm, I mean, followers to do their bidding and push me around like a rag doll. I feel much like a wolf in a herd of angry sheep, my comrades pushing them and edging them on until I get trampled and the next unlucky soul gets stuck in my place.
My my my, I'm rather melodramatic, aren't I? I suppose it's to be expected. But, why WAS I here, anyway? No, no, not that whole "meaning of life" junk, I mean, why was I standing on the edge of my enemy's headquarters? Waiting for an ambush? Walking along an contemplating my own existence with an obvious depressed flare surely was no way to go about infiltrating a place.
Out for a stroll... I insisted to myself, letting out a sigh as I crunched down the forest path, admiring just how dark and dreary the trees above were. Yes, out for a stroll... and out to catch an arrow in my butt, likely.

waefae wandered near the borders when he saw Kal, the leader of the Grey Company walking through the woods. What is wrong with my guards? Ever since Dante went on vacation, things have not been run smoothly. Waefae thought as he began to get angry. He drew his claymore and silently began to approach Kal. Looks like I have to deal with him on my own...

>>Let's talk this over \\ >>It's not like we're dead \\
That's not a very nice way to great people. I sighed, pretending like I knew where the shadow was coming from. So who came to slit the fools throat? A lackey, or someone who wold be a challenged? Oh, who was I kidding, anyone would be a challenge for me. Somehow my minions, erm, followers, had shifted my training from sword fighting to history. I was still trying to figure out how exactly they did that without me noticing (I don't think they really approved of a leader with no knowledge of their country's history, but really, I could have fit it in on the side).
I played with my fingers, encouraging the light to brighten a little, to shift a little lower and show me where exactly that shadow came from. Right, behind, five feet, 10 inches... King of shadows, I muttered, spinning a knife into the dark
\\ So much for my happy ending<<

Waefae effortlessly wielded the large claymore and blocked the spinning knife. It fell harmlessly to the forest floor. "You'll have to do better than that if you want to kill me Kal," the wizard hissed as he continued to approach.

Wow, wow, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Who ever said anything about killing each other? I replied, trying to keep my tone even. That was one frickin' big sword he was totting. Do you always great ambassadors like this? No wonder the Queen hasn't been able to calm this whole mess down. Don't insult him! But, I mean, not to say that... I screwed up my face, trying to make the right words come out of my gaping mouth. They weren't going to- oh, wait, I think.... no, no, still not coming.
I let out a long, exasperated sigh, taking a step back. That was probably a bad thing to do, give up ground like that, but I wasn't going to lie and say I wasn't intimidated by the scene being acted out in from my me. My mind was thinking faster then my heart was beating. This is going to sound really cheesy, but all I want to do is talk. I swear on my father's grave, Waefae.
My faced turned serious. The thought flashed through my mind that I'd been having to much fun over the months. The dark, stiff attitude which had once been been had faded into some kind of comic routine littered with sarcasm and a cynical nature. With the distinct feeling that I was going to have something chopped off before I left this forest resting on my shoulders, I vowed to take this entire life of mine a little more seriously. Just a tad more.

"Do not insult me. If you had really wanted to talk and negotiate with me, you would not have thrown the dagger at me. Do you honestly think that I believe you Kal?" Waefae asked as he began circling Kal; the claymore now resting on Kal's shoulder. "Do you have any idea what I do to members of the Grey Company, the Queen's followers, and those pesky refugees?"

Yeah, well, what would you have done if some shadowy figure was creeping up on you? Turned around and waved at him? I barked, letting my temper slip through. My frustration seemed to be rising quickly with impending doom and a closed minded horror circling me like a rabid dog. Gods bless me, if he could read minds...
I'm serious here. I swore on my father's grave. Doesn't that mean anything to you? What happened to elf's honor, eh? Look, I seriously think you'll be interested in this. Consider where I'm coming from. I'm not even from this country, Waefae. How much do you think I have invested in this little squabble you and the Queen have? I put on a facade of clam, straitening my posture like a negotiating ambassador, a man sure in his word and stance. Was I really sure? Well, I'm... I'm not sure.

"First, I am not an Elf, so I care little for your customs or sense of honor. Secondly, even though you may not be from this country, how do I know that you are not trying to play both sides to take over some part of Forinasi for yourself?" Waefae asked, a strange and evil grin creeping across his face. "l've been around long enough to know that a leader can trust no one, not even those he may view as his closest advisers." The claymore remained on Kal's shoulder as Waefae continued to circle.

Ever consider that you're a bit to jaded? I'll have you know I have many close advisers I trust with my life. Ok, that was an outright lie, but... you know, pressure and all that. I'm not a saint, nor do I pretend to be, because I know better. Or, at least, I've been taught better.
Besides, I'm not asking you to let me into your head or something.I argued, my eyes drifting to the blade without out my consent, I let them rest there for a bit, let the sweat drip, then I steeled myself against the growing fear and faced forward. Ready to take the punishment, or the mercy as it came. I didn't see Waefae as much of a man of mercy, though. How fast could I draw my own blade? Fast enough? Time would tell... literally.

"The fact still remains that you are the leader of an ambiguous group known as the Gray Company," Waefae said as he continued to circle Kal. "I do not fully believe what you say about you trusting your own officers. No one can trust a person. Not when they all fail you." A sad look swiftly passed across his face as he thought of his dead sister, but the fleeting sentiment was soon pushed aside by the elemental.

A group which has so far refrained from out-right opposing you, unlike another leader around here. I hoped hinting at Isandra would be enough to turn his htoughts down a more favorable path. Peraps one that inclded doubt, doubt about his ability to defy the queen on his own. Doubt that might lead to a much neded treaty between our two groups. Or such was the plan. I didn't really expect it to go the way I wanted. For all the dealings I do, I seem to know little about the otherpeple's minds work. What a wonderful handicap.
I lifted me hand running my finger along he blade, keeping careful not to cut it. No need to look like an incompetent fool before the man who held my life in his hands, Or supposedly held my life. I let slide a confident grin, my eyes narrowing lightly. Just a small hint, but perhaps enough. Was it a bluff, or wasn't it?

"Ah, but how do I know that you won't turn your back on me and take over the Revenge?" Waefae asked.

I stared for a moment, running the question through my head. Ah, it always comes to that, doesn't it? You can talk about deals and trust and plans all you want, but at the core of it all is the idea of trust. Do you trust your minions, your friends, your superiors? Your leader tells you to kill a child, promising that it will prove to be the right decision in the end. Who do you trust, your self or your commander? Trust is always the question. If there was no trust in the world, it would be chaos. So how does one calm the anxious mind of a wanted man, of a psychotic killer?
Looking back, maybe it wasn't a good plan I was banking on here.
Augh, such a serious tone! The situation was obviousely weighing me down, bringing out the rarely seen philosopher strategist in me. To bad that side couldn't cure my problem, With a sigh I recognized I was in a loosing situation.
What am I supposed to say? I asked, letting my shoulders dip in a manner of defeat. Score one for Waefae.

Waefae took a step back, stunned by how he had not continued to fight with arguments. He stood there and thought about what Kal had said. How does one answer such a question? he wondered. "Absolutely nothing you could ever say will make me trust you."

Ok, good, so we've established that. Now, put yourself in my shoes. Your only hope would be if I or... whoever you were bargaining with, trusted you, right? Isn't it worth it to take the risk and see if what I say is true, instead of just brushing of something that could perhaps be the greatest thing to ever happen to you? I made use of my eccentric ability to use hand gestures, trying to emphasize my point as best I could, trying to get him to know just how strongly I felt.
With a deep breath, I took a chance, gently pushing the blade off my shoulders and away from my neck. It was a test, to see if my message had gotten through to him. I prayed to the gods it had, because beyond that I was out of ideas. It felt like I was trying to tell a tree to grow cats on it's branches instead of fruit.
My fingers pulled at a chain around my neck. Perhaps a little magic was in order to help me here. Perhaps I didn't have as much magic as I thought.
