I might have come to you to make a deal, but I came with the interest as being seen as an equal, not a pawn or a tool. I'm the one offering something here, I should be able to decide where we talk. I have the most to loose don't I? Feel free not to take me to your headquarters, I'd much rather talk here. I replied, after backing away again. I found my back up against the tree now. my hands digging into the bark as I tried to calmly reason instead of beg. I had the distinct feeling if I let him take me away. Who's to say the "options" he listed wouldn't actually happen?
Huh, what a turn of events. Moments ago I had been begging him to trust me, but it seems like all my trust was disappearing.

Waefae chuckled as he watched Kal back up nervously. Kal had just cornered himself. "Look at where we are. We are in the middle of a woods, spies are in the trees, and you have cornered yourself. Do you see a desk, quill pens, or paper any where to make a treaty or pact? I don't." He laughed menacingly. This entire situation was quite amusing to the wizard, and he began to toy with a dagger. "On my honor as a wizard, if you go to my headquarters blindfolded and do as I ask, no harm will come to you, and I will make sure you get escorted out of my woods without being so much as scratched." He grinned slyly at Kal.

I burst in laughter, part of it from nerves, part of it from disbelief, part of it because.. Well, because I found it funny. Honor... as a wizard? No offense, but, well, no, offense meant: I don't trust wizards that much. Look, before we go and start writing all of this down, I think we should first figure out exactly what level of "trust" we are both willing to concede to. So far we've established that you trust me enough to allow me a little insight into your operation, and that I don't trust you enough to walk into your secret compound alone. figured numbers wouldn't really matter if it came down to a fight with him, but I was attempting to establish a general idea.
Maybe it is best if I return at a later date, after you've had a bit of time to consider everything this treaty is implying. If you do this intending to the the Grey Company as a tool for your own use, then you are sorely mistaken. You will have greatly underestimated the Company's power and ability. I pushed off of the tree, let a confident smile creep on to my face. And you'll have also underestimated our connection to the Queen.

"Thinking about it is probably the first smart idea you've had this entire conversation. I will think about it, however, I cannot assure you that you will gain safe entry back into my woods. Perhaps we should set up our own rendezvouses point," Waefae said as he slowly backed off.

I withheld my sarcastic comment, deciding the strained relationship would only get worse if I kept up the insulting banter. Fine. I growled Pick place, somewhere neutral. Unless you desire a tour of my headquarters. I narrowed my eyes at him, trying to complete the air of confidence I really wasn't feeling, while I stood my ground. Yeah, let him back off. as soon as he was out of sight, I was going to make a run for it.

Waefae nodded as he replied, "I would prefer some place neutral, however, it would appear more diplomatic if I came to your headquarters. The choice is yours really, since you came to me."

I resisted the urge to let my jaw drop at the thought of Waefae... in my headquarters... Not even all the Company members could make me feel safe if that situation came to light.
Heulandite. The time and day are your choice, I will have a spy posted to alert me when you are there. Agreed? Mmm, it was bit scary to think just how real this alliance might become. Until now it had all be a little surreal, like a game, but listing dates, knowing that when I went back home I would have to start thinking on contracts and wording... It almost made me want to back out. But I couldn't not if I wanted the Company to get anywhere. Right now we were uninvolved, a third party easily removed if we over-stepped our bounds. But now, if this played out right... Removing us would be fatal. We were like a leech, and we were tapping into the biggest blood vein we could find.

"Heulandite, it is then," Waefae said with a smile. "Four o'clock at the Green Wolf Tavern a week from today," he continued. "I will have a guard with me. If you try anything, don't expect any mercy from me," Waefae warned, the smile gone and suspicion in his voice.

Fine, sounds reasonable. And the same goes for me; guarded. As to exactly how many guards, spies, bodyguards, assassins, and other sorts I would have lying around, I decided it would be best to keep that information to myself.
I gave a half salute, lifting my hand to my forehead and letting it drop quickly. Until then. I remarked, my last words under these cursed trees. This forest was not like the one I was used to, it was subtle, but the longer I stayed the more it hurt my soul. I sang quietly in plant-speech to calm myself and mourn the trees.
I turned and walked away, trembling as I wondered if I would survive the trek home.

"See you in two weeks Kal," Waefae called out to Kal's retreating form. He headed back to his head quarters. "So much to plan and so little time," Waefae muttered.
