Soren finally arrived at Heulandite, after a long journey through fields and forests and some checkpoint towns. He didn't think he could make very much of a fortune in such small places, so he set his sights on the marketplace.
He breathed in the city air, the bustling noise of crowds in the streets. This was a perfect place to set up his artist shop.
...The only problem was that it was so crowded, he didn't know where specifically to set up shop.

Mirage wandered through the market place. There were many people selling magical potions in their shops and stalls, but none seemed able to help her solve her problem. A vendor she had never seen in the town began to try and find a place to set up shop. She sensed the magic surrounding him and began to walk towards him. Perhaps he can help solve my problem with my abilities before they get worse...

Finally, Soren settled on a small space wedged between a meat vendor and a trinket shop. It was going to take him more than a few minutes to get everything in place, assuming that their were no gypsies to steal his belongings. He set up his easel, and then began to hang some of his gallery on the back wall.

Mirage watched the strange vendor set up shop. An artist? She began to wonder if he could help her, but since Daemon was no where to be found, and no one in the Queen's court seemed able to help her, perhaps this artist would be able to, besides, she needed someone to talk to other than Daemon's latest girl friend.

Soren put up three of his paintings as a sample of his gallery for the crowds to see and decided it wasn't worth the trouble of putting up more for the moment. He sat on his stool and picked up his paint board (I forget what it's called). Before he even started to mix his paints, the meat vendor growled at him.
"You'd better not spill any paints on my merchandise, boy!" he growled.
Soren winced and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yes, sir." He was about to paint, and then he saw Mirage standing there. "Hm? May I help you?" he said with a smile.

Mirage scanned the art work. "You're art work is rather fascinating. I don't think I've seen anything like it before. What kind of art work do you do?" She tilted her head to the side and gazed at the vendor, trying to tell if he was a threat or could be trusted.

Soren grinned at her without motive. He then proceeded to paint his black canvas. "My art ranges between whatever wants to be painted at the time. A crowd of people in a city, a multicolored sunset, even something as small and overlooked as a simple white daisy."
He painted as he spoke, but it wasn't clear quite yet what he was painting.

She didn't like the way he had smiled at her, and her hand reflexively began to reach for a dagger. Just because someone smiles at you is no reason to kill him... she reminded herself and forced her hand to come away from the dagger. Mirage came closer until she was standing over his shoulder. She had no idea what he was painting. "Can you use your ability to do anything other than paint?"she asked.

Soren glanced at her for a brief moment, his hand not ceasing to stroke a bit of orange here and a dab of red there as he did so.
"What do you mean?" he asked, turning the majority of his focus back to his canvas. "I was merely addressing the idea that painting is a passion for me... And my paintings return my passion with inspiration."
The canvas was becoming more defined as he added meticulous detail. This painting seemed like it was going to turn out like a scene of the market around him

"Your ability to paint is influenced by more than just your artistic ability. I sensed magic around you when I entered the market place. How do you use your magic?" Mirage asked as she continued to look on in amazement as the painting began to unfold and resemble the market place around them.

"I assure you that I am hardly a magician of any sort," Soren remarked, touching up little details on faces and buildings. "If there is any magical prowess in me at all, it's sheer dumb luck."
Taking a brief moment to rest, he swiveled around in his stool and looked at Mirage curiously. "Why, if I may ask, do you insist that my painting ability is amplified by something more than practice?"

Mirage stood there admiring the artwork for a little while before she answered his question. "I am merely trying to figure out the nature of your magical abilities. I thought it might be linked to your artistic abilities."

"Hm."
Soren pondered the thought for a moment, wondering if she were right. There were, indeed, times of supernatural incidents that happened around him when he was in the orphanage. Certainly that was something to consider. But otherwise, he couldn't think of any reason why he would have magical abilities.
"Well," he said, with a grin, "it seems as though we are exchanging streams of thoughts without knowing who we are to each other. What might your name be, miss?"

"Mirage. I work for the queen," she said as she continued to look over his shoulder. "And you?"
