The smell of autumn pierced the air. It was an earthy smell, and rich. A reptilian nose, covered in glistening white scales, emerged from under a pile of crisp orange and brown leaves and flared wide, taking in fresh breaths. A steamy cloud emerged from them, spiraling away into nothing. And suddenly the ground erupted, two large, snowy wings bursting from beneath the leaves that coated them. Eori's body followed, shaking the remaining leaves from her body like a dog would shake water from its fur.
It wasn't often that the dragon slept in the forest, but the sky had been breathtakingly beautiful last night. The stars were radiant and shining and the moon was nowhere to be found. Now in the empyrean, the sun resided, casting its lovely rays to the earth.
Eori transformed suddenly, donning her child's appearance. Her long, slightly tangled blonde hair fell messily from her scalp, over her startlingly orange optics. The girl set off through the forest, dancing through the fallen leaves and occasionally bending over to pick them up then cast them to the sky she so adored. She did need to head towards a town or something soon, though. Just because she was perfectly capable of hunting for herself didn't mean that Eori was going to every time she was hungry. Cooked meat was quite tasty too, after all.
Eori wondered. Was she alone out here? Possibly. But there was always the chance that there was a person out her with her. So, in her shrill human voice she called out, "Hello? Anyone there? Hello!" A little laugh rang out after her sing-song greeting to no one in particular. The lives of children were so simple and carefree! Well, perhaps this particular child's, anyway.

Guy walked through the woods in his human form that day. He enjoyed the cool air beneath the tall trees and the gentle breeze that scattered dead leaved down the pine needle covered deer path he walked on. The smells tickled his nose as he inhaled deeply, enjoying God's creation. He heard a young, almost elven voice drift through the air in a sing-song way. It was a little girl laughing, saying hello to no one in particular. He walked towards her, and came to a clearing in the woods. She looked to be about seven years old. "Hello," he said as he walked into the clearing. Even in his human form, his ears were somewhat pointy, so he was often mistaken for an elf, but he was in fact, a dragon, half fire breathing half tundra dragon. He smiled remembering the days when he used to watch his sister dance in the autumn woods. He took off his hat and swept it in a low bow, the red Phoenix feather brushing the ground.

So there was someone out this wonderful morning besides Eori. The burning embers in her eye sockets traced the direction her rounded human ears told her the older male's voice had come from and sure enough, there was another being. "Hello sir!" she said cheerfully, smiling her largest smile to show off her slightly pointed dragon's teeth. Most wouldn't notice them, but occasionally a regular human would point them out and she'd have to explain her true identity. At least it didn't scare most when she told them she was a dragon. And if it wasn't her teeth that gave her away, her atrocious table manners and very obvious preference for meat proved her far from domestic origins.
The little girl stood still now, staring up at the man. Eori breathed in deep and a peculiar smell caught her attention. Her eyelids pulled back, curiousity causing her orbs to widen. "You smell like..." she started, her high-pitched voice trilling out the words. "You smell like a dragon!" Eori exclaimed, her slender eyebrows raising. "Are you?"
Perhaps it wasn't the best way to begin a conversation with a stranger, especially an adult. But then, Eori decided she was probably older than he was and therefore had the right to question him in such a bold manner. "What's your name?" Well, it was an attempt at an amendment, anyway.

Ah, the innocence of a child was refreshing to see, and yet he wondered if she was really as young as she looked. "Yes, I am a dragon," he said as he put his somewhat ridiculous hat back on. "My name is Guy Fawkes, and yours is?"

Another dragon who could take a human form? Eori hadn't run into one like her in many, many years. But she wondered if he aged like a normal human and if, in effect, he would die like a human would. But if he was a dragon, should he have a long life? Or maybe he'd stopped aging human-wise later than she had. He could quite possibly also be able to choose how old he appeared. The nature of dragons was confusing, even to themselves! "Really? I am too!" Eori said, still smiling.
"My name? Oh, I'm Eori. Eori Lumor," the young girl offered. "It's nice to meet you, Guy!" Without warning, Eori did an impromptu spin on the ball of her foot and fell back into the leaves, giggling. "I love autumn," she sighed, sitting up. Her legs were loosely crossed and her torso's slight weight rested on all of her fingers that were splayed behind her.

Guy smiled and laughed, a deep, rich, throaty laugh. His eyes sparkled in the autumn sun. "I love the autumn too," he said as he watched Eori twirl around and fall back onto the leaves. He sat down on a pile of leaves a few feet away from her. He cocked his head to one side, trying to figure out how old she was. "How old are you?" he finally asked, curiosity getting the better of his manners. She looked so young.... to young to be away from a family, but experience had taught him to let them tell him they're troubles, that he need not pry.

"It's my favorite season," the girl announced, pulling her legs closer to her body and sitting up straight and tall. Her hands were now toying with a brilliantly royal red leaf, spinning it around by its stem and the like. It was just too bad that every leaf that was on the ground, as pretty as it may have been, was now considered useless by the tree that had dropped it. Was that not a little bit inconsiderate to the poor leaf? It had, after all, done its duty well all throughout the spring and summer, had it not? Eori felt bad for them. But, unfortunately, it was the way of nature and the dragon wasn't going to question anything so far beyond her knowing.
"Me? Well, I look seven, don't I?" she asked, cocking her head and staring at the now sitting Guy. "But, I'm actually a lot older than that." A playful grin rested on her lips. "Guess how old I am!" Her words were closely trailed by yet another laugh as she clambered to her feet once more and skipped through the leaves, resuming behavior much like what she had been doing previously; that is to say, acting very much like a child would.

Guy looked amused at her antics, but was baffled that she could be older than seven. Had she just stopped growing at a young age? "I'm going to guess twelve," he said. There was something strange about her, but he couldn't tell what it was.

Eori stopped dead in her tracks when she heard Guy's reply. "You think I'm only twelve?" she asked, a smile beginning to pick up on her lips again. "Are you just being nice?" If only he knew how far off he was from her real age. Which, he would soon. That is, if Eori decided to tell him.
"What's it like being an adult? As a human, I mean," the girl said, completely changing the course of conversation. She was rather famous for doing so. "Since I've been around for two hundred and seventy-three years, I'm just a little curious." Okay, maybe not quite such a stretch. And she had given him the correct answer to her question, after all.

Guy thought he could have died of shock when he heard her say that she was 273 years old. "Wow....." he muttered. "Me, I'm thirty-six. It's not as carefree as being a child, but it is fun at times. Then there are the days where you wish you could go back to your childhood, wish that you didn't have to worry about Waefae, days that you could forget everything..." he said as he got a far away look in his eyes. "What's it like always being a child?"

A smirk stretched wide over Eori's mouth at his reaction. Of course, she wasn't surprised. "You're still so young!" she teased as she allowed her energy to expend itself by dancing up to Guido. "I remember when I was only thirty-six. Actually, I was quite the angered soul back then." But she nodded at his next words, catching the seriousness in his voice, and was that a bit of resentment she heard? "I can understand that, though I've never experienced it in the same way you have. I may only have a child's body, but I've seen this world and how it works many times over."
At the mention of Waefae, Eori's pumpkin eyes narrowed, but only just. She hadn't had any problems with him personally. She knew of the pain he caused others, however. It was much like what the elves had done to her that night that Aislynne was murdered, except they had had good intentions.
"It's actually not quite as fun as it may seem," she replied, looking at Guy with a blank expression. "I mean, people think I'm cute, but not many want to deal with an orphan child. And I can't ever buy the things I need because I am so young and shopkeepers don't believe what I really am. Not to mention my eyes are a bit.. different." She blinked. "I know you can understand that though, am I right?"
Eori could get to like this man. Normally she was a bit standoffish around strangers, not knowing their intentions or who they might be affiliated with, but Guy had caught her on a good day.

Guy chuckled when she said that he was still very young, which to her it would be true, but to the other dragons he'd met, he was deemed older. "I know what it's like to have people stare at you because your eyes tend to look strange. Mine always look like reptilian slits. Eternal youth must be strange, never growing up.... how do you take care of yourself?"

Eori looked at Guy's eyes, and sure enough, they were slitted like, well, like a dragon's. They were quite a lovely silver, too. Eori vaguely wondered what he looked like as a dragon.
"It isn't strange to me," the female declared, crossing her spindly arms over her chest. "I've never been an adult, or known anything different than being a human child for that matter. Honestly, I think that if I were to wake up as an adult one morning, that would be more of an oddity to me." Eori shrugged, uncrossing her arms once more.
How did she take care of herself? Was he not a dragon as well? He should know the answer to that one, unless his instincts were dulled and blunt. "This question is pretty obvious, don't you think?" she asked, giving him a peculiar look before dashing to the opposite end of the clearing. Once there, Eori sank to her knees, then placed her palms against the earth and leaves. Her face went completely blank, filled with a childish serenity that only youth seemed to possess honestly.
And there was a child no more, but instead a small dragon. Her snowy reptilian scales glimmered in the bright sun, as they had earlier this morning, and her face was quite serious. "Like this, of course," she answered finally, though she didn't speak directly. Her voice seemed to be more of an echo through the space, not quite in a person's mind but not quite perceived with their ears exclusively, either. It also sounded more mature, like an adult woman's would, and had the purest ring one could imagine interwoven with her words.

"But when you go into town, do you always find someone kind enough to take you in? These days, people are less than nice to you when they find out that you are a dragon, well at least most people are. There are some who don't really care." He then allowed himself to transform into a large black and red fire breathing dragon. He towered over the small white dragon sitting a little ways from him. He cocked his head to once side, and then changed into a blue and silver tundra ice dragon, somewhat smaller and more graceful looking. He looked like a feline mixed with a bit of a wolf. He sat down and looked at Eori. He was still far taller than she was.

The white reptile looked up at the new Guy, like she probably always would, and admired his powerful build. She was on the slim side, her body lithe and graceful in the air. She was almost like a snake when she moved, her spine was so flexible. And as if to show this off, a spot on her back itched in such a place that only her teeth could reach. So, the female dragon's lengthy neck rolled backwards, baring her throat to the world as she pulled her lips back delicately. Her razor sharp fangs gently pinched together at the scales, soothing the irritation there. When she was done, she resumed her former position, nothing out of the ordinary about her at all.
"It's not fair, you know," she commented, blinking lazily before scanning the trees as a routine check for danger or food. There was nothing there, of course; it was too early in the morning for most creatures... or was it?
Eori's entire frame held perfectly still as she calculated the size and strength of the large buck that was quite a ways off, far enough that the human eye couldn't have possibly spotted him. He looked absolutely delicious. A forked tongue sneaked its way from between Eori's teeth, licking her lips at the very thought of its juicy meat. But of course it would be rude to eat in front of a stranger; after all, she wasn't normally one to share her kill unless the other creature couldn't fend for itself. So, the dragon relaxed her posture once more, sinking gently back onto her haunches once more.
