Why Sentril? Why couldn't I have been the one to perish in her place? It simply isn't fair... though I suppose it wouldn't have done her any good if I were gone, either.
These were the types of thoughts always running through Sol's mind. He hardly could think of much more, though. Passion was a hard thing to simply wave away, even if it was cruelly stolen without explanation. Perhaps it was the way of the world. After all, Sol reminded himself, he could not possibly be the only one who had lost someone so dear to his heart.
The lean nineteen year old's body was sitting on a large flat rock near the river. One leg was bent at the knee, forming an L shape. The other stood tall, the foot planted firmly against the surface. An arm rested on the second leg's knee while the other arm served to provide balance from behind. A hand had itself firmly entangled in Sol's hair, the heel resting lightly at the top of his forehead. His tarnished emerald eyes simply ignored the arm in their way, though, and cast themselves out over the swift current. Rounded, human ears picked up the faint roar of the waterfall, far enough to be out of sight but close enough to cause the water's flow.
There was a sigh. Ever since he'd found Sentril's body, Sol had been telling himself to pull it together. There was no bringing her back, and he knew it. Her corpse, still beautiful, albeit in a twisted sense, even in death, was proof enough of that. He had to move on. It was an impossible feat, it seemed.
Before Sol could even register what had happened, his head whipped around and his posture changed to more of a crouch, his spine following the spiral his neck had created. There had been a sound behind him, and with a somewhat thick covering of trees there, it could mean anything. Food, predators, another human or... other being. Muddy green optics narrowed a bit, scanning his surroundings for any clue of what may have been the source. He hadn't realized it, but his hand had drifted to his waist, where a small sheath containing a dagger rested. It may prove to be useful. Then again, possibly not. It all came down to waiting.

Guy was hunting. He flew high above the trees, looking for a deer to roast and eat. He smelled a human near by, and listened to the roar of the waterfalls. He swooped and began his descent to earth when he decided to forgo a meal and see if he could help. He began his transformation into human form and landed on a tree a little ways from the human with a grunt. He looked around, flapped his wings, and jumped to the ground. His wings disappeared as he began to walk towards the human. He could see the man had heard him, and as he walked into the clearing, he said, "Hello, I hope I didn't startle you. We dragons are known for our bad landings when in forests" He smiled and took off his eccentric hat, bowing so that the feather swept the ground. His trench coat billowed behind him, and he had a large grin on his face and an amused look in his eyes. He usually found it funny to see how people reacted to his being a dragon.

A sense of relief was faintly visible when it was another human being revealing himself. Sol wasn't sure what could live out here. He'd heard stories about the creatures that roamed the land... not all of them were good. He could only hope to avoid those he couldn't possibly hope to understand or at the very least, fend off in an attack.
This man was quite the character to behold, though; the hat alone captivated Sol for a moment along with the rest of his outfit. And then there were his eyes to consider. There was something odd about him, however, and Sol couldn't place a finger on it.. until the newcomer announced it himself. "Dragon.." was all that escaped the younger man's lips. Interesting.
"It's quite alright. I was just... thinking," replied Sol, his posture relaxing considerably. He still rested on the ball of each foot, but his full weight was there, his arms crossed lazily over his chest.
The dragon seemed nice enough. It might be false kindness. It might not. Sol could take his chances. After all, he highly doubted he could run fast enough to outdistance a dragon, though he knew little about the species. Better to leave it to chance, now. And besides, a travelling companion might not hurt. If, of course, any friendship blossomed. The two could very well turn hostile to each other.

Guy stood up and looked at the young man in front of him. He looked to be no older than twenty, but there was something in his eyes that screamed of pain beyond his years, those sad emerald eyes, crying out for someone to understand. The man was depressed. "How did it happen?" Guy asked, and then realized that that was not the best way to start an acquaintance.

Sol was taken aback by the dragon-man's words. "I'm sorry?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowing together. It was a confusing question. How did what happen? Sol's jade orbs were still fixed on the stranger. He thought for a moment. Would this person know who he was? Maybe they had crossed paths before... No, he was quite memorable, at least now, and Sol was fairly sure that if he would have recognized, at the very least, the ostentatious feather in the onyx hat.
"I'm afraid I don't know what you mean," the young man said.

Guy's cheerful mood slipped away. "Your eyes are so sad. They look like mine often do. What brings such deep sorrow to them?" Guy asked. He really wanted to help this young man, even though he did not know him.

A heavy breath left Sol at those words. It wasn't a sigh, exactly, but more of a feeling of being discovered. Other than his and her family, he had told no one much of the tragedy that had befallen him. And here he was already thinking of how to tell a complete stranger about Sentril. Of course, there wasn't much to tell. Sol didn't know what had exactly happened to his soulmate. His hazeled green eyes became downcast, staring at the rock beneath his feet.
"..My wife." It wasn't the greatest of explanations. "She... one night she disappeared and didn't return for months." Here, Sol took a steadying breath. As often as he recalled the days, he had never done it aloud and for some reason, doing so was more trying on his emotions. "No one knew where she had gone." He bit his lip. "And one morning..." Sol's voice faltered. He'd been attempting to keep it steady and free of emotion much heavier than remorse and sadness, and now full-on grief had washed over him. The only evidence was in his voice and the small tear that travelled solemnly down his right cheek. He sounded broken now, and continued in a whisper. "One morning, I found her in front of our house. She was dead."
And now, silence from the human. He had nothing more to say, really. All that he had told was what was troubling him, as it had been for years. Sol's heart did feel a little bit lighter, though. Why, he didn't know or understand.

Guy put a comforting hand on the young man's shoulder. He then sat down on the rock next to him. "There is nothing worse in life than loosing someone you love for what seems like no reason. I was living a happy life with my family when Waefea and his mean destroyed them. I tried to protect my sister Leana, but I couldn't. I had to watch as my entire family was slaughtered by the wizard, the reason being that we fought against evil. I tried to bring her back by selling my soul to Waefae, but he didn't. His hold on me recently broke, however, I must now always but an innocent at risk to keep me alive in a symbiotic relationship. This must be done willingly, understanding the risks. If I die, a young dragon named Suri will cease to exist. It seems to make little sense, but not knowing what happened or who did it, not having resolution, aye, that is far worse." Guy looked over at him. "Forgive me for not asking first, but what is your name?"

Stupidly, Sol felt himself flinch when he felt a hand on him. This man was proving to be a friend, after all. A friend with problems of his own, as well. "So you know the pain of loss," commented Sol after the stranger had finished, his eyes still downcast. "You're right, that is a bit confusing, but that burden must be hard to bear as well," he continued, meaning about Suri.
What was it like to sell one's soul, their very being? It couldn't be easy, or without pain, surely not. This sister must have meant the world to the man, for him to go to such lengths to have her returned.
At some point in their exchange, Sol had changed to a more comfortable seat, much like the one he'd taken before.. what was this man's name? Well, before the dragon had left the forest. Earthy emeralds glanced up at the one beside him. But before he could ask the question, he'd recieved it himself. "I am Sol Vorh," he replied simply. "And may I ask for yours?"

"Guy Fawkes," he said. "Yes, I know the meaning of pain. To have no soul was the most terrifying experience of all. Were it not for Suri, I would be burning in the nine hells. She saved me in more ways than one. Some day, you will learn to see the light again my young friend. Selling my soul was the worst mistake I ever made, and she never even came back, at least not that I know of. The falls are beautiful, and I want to show you something, a way I remembered to have hope. How about a walk down to the pools beneath the falls?" Guy stood up and started walking towards the trail, not bothering to look back. The lad would either follow or not. He felt as if this man needed a friend, almost a father figure to teach him that there was life after death, hope when there seemed no reason to keep going.

Guy was a strange one. Sol would give him that. But he knew the seriousness that life held, and possibly even death. Oh, certainly death.. He'd lost his whole family, after all. Sol knew how it felt to have all held dear ripped away. And to go to such extreme measures to bring one back, and all his efforts to be fruitless... What a strong man.
And suddenly Fawkes was gone. Sol had caught his message, but held back for a moment. Did he want to let go of his memories and sorrow? Odd as it may be, there was a certain comfort in such feelings. But to be truly happy again... It was most definitely tempting. So in the end, the young man of chestnut locks got lightly to his feet, following the direction he'd seen Guy go in. It was a simple narrow dirt trail, though rather worn. Quite a frequented path, it seemed. Now it was to on to see the beauty that Guy had spoken of. It must have been a powerful place, for the man to have recovered at least somewhat from his loss.

Guy reached the pools where he removed his boots, trench coat, and weapons. He waded into the cold water and turned around. His tunic was already soaked. He motioned for Sol to wade into the water. Then he said, "Close your eyes. Forget everything you see and hear. Just hold onto my hand and trust me." He waited to see if Sol would actually do it. It was a strange request after all, to just trust someone.

Hmm. It was quite an astonishing place, and very peaceful. Sol reached the end of the trail, where he spied Guy's belongings lying on the ground. And then, of course, Guy. The older man was already out in the water, seeming not to have a care in the world. Sol hesitated to follow suit, though. In the end, however, he stripped himself of his own shoes, worn boots that had seen better days. Though Sol would regret it, his other clothing stayed on. All that consisted of, though, was a white, somewhat loose shirt and some brown pants, held up with a thin black leather belt.
A small shock ran up Sol's body when his calves were submerged. The water was freezing! Still, he pressed on until he was in just as deep as Guy, resisting the urge to let his teeth chatter. He followed Guy's requests, slowly extending his hand out until the two were connected. This was a bit strange, though it was very relaxing.
Closing his eyes, Sol made sure to focus only on the sound of his breathing, slow, deep pulls of air into his lungs, and the feeling of his hand grasping the dragon's. A sense of eerie calm washed over him, and his muscles eventually began to relax themselves.
Maybe he was putting too much trust into the one he'd just met. But so far, Guy hadn't done anything to harm Sol, and somehow the younger man had been able to open up about all of his troubles without any badgering from the stranger. Maybe he'd be able to get his life in order again after all.

Guy led him deeper into the pool until they stood directly under the waterfall. The weight of the rushing water crashed over them. He fought to keep from falling over. "It sounds like thunder, doesn't it?" he shouted over the sound of the falls. He continued to speak, not waiting for an answer to a rhetorical question. "There will still be pain, but you learn to move on. You learn to stand in the rain."

At first, Sol only followed the tugging on his hand as a guide to where he was going. But soon, his eyes opened, taking in the scene. He caught sight of where Guy was taking him, and at the last minute thought to plant his feet in a stance that was a bit wider than normal to keep from falling. The water did indeed sound like thunder echoing throughout the secluded little place.
Sol's voice was nearly lost in the roaring frenzy of the falls. He was a quiet person to begin with. "Is this your refuge?" he asked Guy, looking at his odd silvery orbs with jade optics of his own.
