It was an easy ride. They were making good time, so they didn't need to strain the horses. At least, not just yet. Anything could happen, still, and they were only a day into the journey. Enmire noticed a loose strap on his baggage and quickly tightened it, shifting the staff he had pinned under the straps. It was the closest thing to a weapon he had.

-Happy New Year Enmire!-
Mirage road beside Enmire. She was enjoying the ride, and the fact that so far, nothing to exciting or dangerous had happened. Some days it was nice not having to constantly check to see if you are being followed. "So, I forget, where are we going again?" Mirage asked. She really couldn't remember, it had been a while since they'd talked about going on a journey to a city for some reason. She smiled at him sheepishly. So, she was really putting her trust in him, and she didn't know why, but he was Queen's Army, so at least she didn't have to worry about him being dumb enough to try to hurt her, or that's what she hoped.

Enmire stared. He didn't know what to make of it. Either she was putting on a facade, or she didn't really care where they were going. He smirked. "Ruby Mountain. This doesn't happen to you often, does it? Should I be worried?"

Mirage chuckled. That sounded odd coming from her. "No," she said as she shook her head, "this isn't usual. I just couldn't remember today," she continued as she kept riding. The sun felt wonderful on her face.

"Well that's reassuring." he replied, his tone laced with light-hearted sarcasm. Still wondering what she was about, he came to the strange conclusion that maybe she was only trying to start a conversation. His other, dismissed theories were far more...paranoid in nature, and Enmire didn't like that he was overthinking things. His tone unchanging, he added, "I was worried you'd walk into a tree, at the rate you were going."

"Oh, you don't have to worry about me walking into a tree if you mean slamming into it. You have to worry about me walking through trees or walls in a non-solid form, and then my abilities turning themselves off on their own account and me getting stuck, invisible, and in a wall or a tree." Mirage laughed and nearly fell off of her horse from laughing. It felt good, and odd to laugh again.

Interesting. "That would be amusing to see." he chuckled, mentally taking note of her ability. It helped to know what his allies could do during an emergency. "You sound as if it's happened before." Enmire decided to act a little less reserved, seeing as she had done so herself. And for an assassin to loosen up was saying something.

"Yeah, until it's a life or death situation, and half of me is in the wall, and the other half exposed to danger. It's happened before. My hand got caught in a wooden post in a market place. At least it wasn't in a life or death situation then..." she said as she caught her breath from laughing. "I haven't laughed like that in a really long time," she said. She smiled and wondered why she was winding down, not less alert, but not so tight, which was odd, considering she made it a point not to trust anyone.

Enmire didn't suppress a chuckle. The image of an assassin with a hand stuck in a wooden post was too funny. "When things don't go according to plan, hmm?" he remarked, thoughtful. She wasn't as he'd expected. Did it mean she was more trustful of him? That was good. The journey would be much easier.

Mirage looked over at Enmire. "If you don't mind me asking, what exactly are you?"

Enmire blinked, surprised at the question. The surprise disappeared quickly, and he asked, "What do you mean?" He had an idea what she meant, but he wanted to be sure.

"Well, you don't exactly look like an elf or a shade. Are you a dragon, vampire, wereperson, or something else?" Mirage asked.

That...wasn't exactly the question he was expecting. "Ah, well, I don't mind answering your question; what intrigues me is the reason behind the question." It was true he didn't look like any of the easily distinguishable races, but he'd been mistaken for a dragon or lux vampire before. "I'm a phoenix, actually."

Mirage looked at him in shock. "I thought those were only myths.... So, can you actually turn into a big fiery bird, or do you just have a human form? But it's cool too...." Mirage stuttered, afraid that she had sounded rude. "It's just that you don't look like any of the other races, and I was curious. I hope I didn't come across as rude... So, what can you do?"

His kind were rare, so he couldn't fault her for it. It was amusing that she believed him so easily, though, so Enmire couldn't help but feel a little mischievous. He was, after all, sixteen. Technically. "I haven't seen many other phoenixes, but I know one who could shapeshift into the bird you speak of. But I myself have only one form." he answered truthfully. However, he grinned when he continued. "I also hear voices and spontaneously combust."
