"Well, my powers have developed a mind of their own. This started when Waefae hit me with a lightning bolt. I now have three voices or personalities fighting in my mind... I'm supposed to be able to disappear, make my self look like a ghost, and sometimes can walk through walls, but rarely ever used that talent. Of late, when I use my talents, they stop working at very dangerous parts of the missions. When I don't use them, they often decide to work on their own without me telling them to do so. I've been becoming a non-solid more frequently and for longer periods of time. I've either formed a symbiotic relationship with something that needs my life force, or as the newest voice just informed me, I'm not only becoming a mirage for ever, but I'm becoming death itself. I'm thinking it's the mirage and death itself ones combined." She looked up at the doctor. "Is that enough information for you, because that's all I'm at liberty to tell you. The rest is classified."

Dr. Croissant nodded with what understanding he could muster. "Well, I don't know much about magical mystery, but I know about its science a little bit. Did you know that while magic is strengthened through various training, its source--like all personal traits--comes from the mind? I find it fascinating."
He waved away the rest of what could have become a longwinded lecture. "But that's for later. My bottomline is, if it's true that being struck by a lightning bolt changed you, I'm not surprised that it did. If you don't mind, I'd like to run a few mental tests on you to check your health."

"Sure, as long as they don't hurt. However, some of what you may need to ask is classified, and I cannot tell it to anyone except the queen herself." Mirage was a little uneasy, however, she needed to solve the problem, and if science could help solve her problem, then it was worth a try.

"Fair enough. Let's begin."
And so, Dr. Croissant began to run various tests, assuring Mirage each time that it was not designed to harm her in any way. He ran standard tests at first, asking Mirage to follow his fingers by sight without moving her head, checking her eyes and ears, checking her spine, etc.
Finally, he brought in some kind of contraption with wires and a monitor. Even Soren was a little taken aback by the machine.
"Don't be afraid, either of you," Dr. Croissant assured them. "This is an invention designed to study brain patterns."

Mirage felt a little uneasy as the tests were being done. However, she began to loosen up a little, that is, until she saw the strange contraption the doctor brought from the other room. "What is that?" she asked, a hand going instinctively to her sword.

"It is something that will hopefully let me understand whether or not there's a link between your problem and your mind patterns," Dr. Croissant said factually. "It won't harm you. It's an observation mechanism. Now, if you don't mind, I will need to stick these stickers on you."

Mirage gripped her sword even more tightly. She tensed up. "Where do those stickers have to go?" she asked.

Dr. Croissant held them up, examining each of them. "These will have to go on your wrists, your forehead and temples, the back of your neck, and your ankles. Sound okay to you?"

"Careful around the head and ankles. I'm a bit jumpy." Mirage was nervous, and hoped that neither of the men present would notice the scars on her back and ankles from when her father had abused her. She began to take off her shoes. They smelled terrible. "Sorry about the smell...." she mumbled and blushed. She rolled up her pants to her knees, removed her socks, and handed her daggers and sword to Soren. "I don't want to accidentally kill anyone."

Soren nodded and put her daggers and sword in plain view for her on the table. Neither Soren nor Croissant seemed to even notice the smell of her shoes. Dr. Croissant mere stuck each patch where it needed to be stuck. When he was done, he went to the machine and turned it on.
The monitor showed a technicolor picture of Mirage's brain, and parts of her brain lit up red, blue, etc. where appropriate.
Croissant studied her brain patterns with interest. "Hm..."

Mirage flinched and tried not to pull away as the stickers were put on her. She was glad that Soren had put her weapons in front of her. None of them were missing. She was surprised to see her brain on a screen. "What do those flashing lights mean?"

((disclaimer: I know nothing about an actual brain observer, so I'm making this up as I go >.<;; ))
Dr. Croissant pointed to the various colors isolated by parts of Mirage's brain. "See here, miss. The red means that this part of your brain is very active at the moment. The blue means that part of the brain is passive." He studied at the monitor for a moment. "Hm... It seems as though you are very tense at the moment."
"There's no wonder," Soren remarked. "This is probably a strange test to Mirage."
"Indeed, I understand." Croissant studied the monitor a little more. "Hm..."

"I'm almost always tense," Mirage replied. "I've always lived in a kill or be killed world sir. But what can it tell us about my problems?"

"Well, I don't quite know what this means specifically," Croissant remarked. "However, it seems as though the part of your brain that controls the mental energy that flows throughout your body is behaving quite wildly."

Mirage tried not to stammer as she asked, "So how does that help solve the problem with my powers or the problem I have of hearing three voices in my head?" As she asked this, she became transparent, but one could still see the outline of her figure as she continued to disappear.
