There was a crash as something fell. But then, there was an even louder rustling. A pack of Makalons suddenly gushed out of the trees, herded out by one of their own being shot dead. They knew now there was danger, and their cries filled the entire forest.
Alone, a makalon wasn't particularly dangerous. Just stupid. But in a group, they weren't exactly fun to be around.
"Oh, crap," I mumbled, feeling my shoulders fall. I gestured at a particularly large one, watching it go up in flames, its scream barely heard of the shreiks of its companions. "Don't worry about the small ones," I hollered at Unari, ducking a Makalon that tried to tangle itself in my hair before scalding that one as well. "Just get the big ones."

ooc: ((-meeps- sorry, posted on the wrong account ><))
Never underestimate the stupidity of Makalons in large groups.
I muttered angrily, lifting my bow and taking aim. I fired off several shots, not missing. Made me feel good, not to miss. I gripped the bow tightly, my eyes widening as I realized my stupid Makalons were getting the far to intelligent idea to fight back into their heads.
Kuso!
I swore, ducking a particularly angry one.

I whirled around to evaluate Unari's situation, quickly throwing a fire ball at the furious Makalon. That was one in about... sixty left. Hm. This might prove to be difficult. Cat had apparently thought so too, as he had hopped inside my pack to take shelter from the monsters, his green eyes barely showing themselves over the rim. Coward.
I took a deep breath, instead focusing on a small cluster of four Makalons. Three of them were successfully burnt and killed. The last one had a flame on his wing, and it began to flap madly, its screeches of pain heard above the rest.
I ignored that one, turning to Unari while keeping one eye on the Makalons. "Fight or Flight?" I yelled at the girl over the bat like creatures' cries. We couldn't fight forever, and flight would be almost impossible.

I bit my lip. A hard choice. I wasn't one of those idiots who refused to ever give up, but I wasn't one of those chickens who ran at every chance. So, fight or flight was always a hard decision for me.
Eh, run! Let's toast a path out of these things and find some cover.
I cried out, pulling another arrow form my quiver. I twirled it once in my hand, the tip erupting into flame. Yeah, I loved that power.

I commended her decision, quickly sprinting off. If she'd said fight, I probably would have ran on without her. I stopped, though. Something was missing.
Cat. His green eyes were crying out at me over the lip of my pack. I paused in my running, sliding back and darting closer to the Makalons, snatching the heavy pack up and just barely slinging it over my shoulders.
I reached out a hand, hooking it onto Unari's arm and dragging her away, throwing a fire ball over my shoulder. The Makalons were following, much to my dismay. I tried to run faster, but my legs didn't have much more to give. Crap.

Wooo!
Our batty little friends burst into flames from Kasanda's fireball and my flaming arrow. With any luck we'd get out of this in more then three pieces. That made me feel giddy.
Then I realized we weren't moving as fast as we should.
Screw this.
I muttered, yanking Kasanda's arm and coming to a stop. I bit my lip, closing my eyes tightly and drawing up my power. I hoped this worked.
So far it wasn't.
Hey, I don't suppose we could join our transportation powers...

I looked behind me. Couldn't we have done this while runnnig? The Makalons were flying in confused circles, confused as to where the others were headed. Run or attack? "Huh?" I said, snapping out of my trance.
"Yeah. Yeah." I took her hand, holding it tight. I relaxed every last one of my muscles. I didn't think about it too much, though, for I knew it probably wouldn't happen that way. My blinking had to be natural, almost unexpected. "On the count of three," I murmured, half to myself.
"One... Two..."

Three!
I opened my eyes, blinking uncertainly. It was bright, very bright. To bright maybe? I wasn't even sure we were in the same country. Wait, we?
I squeezed a hand holding my own. I could only pray there was something attached to the other end.

I blinked at three, feeling a jolt. I sucked air into my lungs. then felt the solid ground beneath my feet. I was afraid to open my eyes, though I felt Unari's hand clinging to my own.
"Did we make it?" I asked, squeezing my eyes closed tighter.

Well, I assumed. Unless we're in heaven. I don't think that possible for both of us, unless you're far more sinister then I believe you are.
I replied, looking around cautiousely. It seemed like we were in the same general area as before.
Does it look ok to you?

I turned the phrase 'ok' over in my mind. It looked safe, yes. For the time being. But my previous clearing had looked safe too, and there had been demon bats hiding in the shadows. I wasn't taking the risk this time.
I released Unari's hand, craning my neck to look over my shoulder and into my pack. Cat was huddled down, but slowly gathering his courage once more. "Okay," I said, sighing. At least we were alive. "Where are we?"
In Castenent, that much was true. But it was a big forest. I bit my lip, looking behind me. "Which way's out?"

I clapped my hands together, looking around myself like I intended to point out the direction. I lifted my hands waving them in different directions, sending my "Mind powers" through the forest in search of a path.
Yeah, it... didn't really work.
Your guess is as good as mine.
I replied with a shrug, sitting down on the ground and crossing my legs.
You want to just start wandering? Or maybe... maybe you could transport yourself into the sky and look around, and before you splatter on the ground transport back to safety!

I stared at her as she enacted some sort of manic dance involving waving her arms around. My brow raised, but I didn't want to say anything in case it worked. Which it didn't.
Her second idea seemed just as unlikely to work. "I'll pass on that one," I said under my breath, looking around me. Wandering didn't sound the wisest decision, as we'd become more lost, most likely. But I wasn't one to sit and wait.
"We should walk," I said in a hurry, glancing behind me at Unari. And, to put truth to these words, I stared at the trees around us, then picked a random direction. "C'mon."
