Kalia shook her head to Ailiana's thoughts. "Huh? Oh, Specificly here? Been a couple of times...But I mostly travel there and back, all across the world. Meeting new beings, and all...How about you?"

I shrugged. "To be honest, I normally make it a point to avoid this place. When I was little, one of my nannies told me this creepy story about how there are these demons in the trees that steal your soul."
Wow, that sounded stupid. It sounded like the sort of thing only an idiot would say.
"I mean, I don't believe it now. It was just one of those things people would tell you so you don't run away or eat your vegetables or whatever. She was just making sure I didn't leave for Tarium, I guess."
And a great good that had done. A few weeks after her telling me the story, she had left for some family emergency. That was what had happened to most of nannies, really. The few who stayed for more than a few months were the crippled, aging old women who wouldn't put up with your crap and used a long stick when you didn't listen. I shivered at the thought.
I was a creepy kid. That was probably why they had left so suddenly. I would tell them to be careful at the stairs, and the next day they'd fall down the very same stairs and break their wrist. Sometimes I'd tell them things about their family not even they knew. I didn't really blame them for leaving.

"Would I be concidered as a Demon in the tree?" Kalia asked about the incident earlier. Then her smile faded. "I know how you feel. Suddenly being on your own, in a strange world with no where to go...no one to be there..." Her voice trailed off memories flooded her mind.

I didn't bother to reply, only nodded. There wasn't really any way to reply. Shrugging once more, I shifted the pack on my back, trying to appear like I didn't really care. Kalia probably already knew about all the hurt I had experienced, but I put up the show of indifference for my own sake.
"How long have you been in Forinasi?" I asked with ease, trying to change the subject in what I hoped came off as a careless manner.

"Um....A couple of years...i think...Well a year or two for sure...i'm not compleatly positive how long, since i travel back and forth, sometimes outside of Forinasi..." Kalia tried to remember, how long was she there... "And i figure you were born here? Right?"

"Mmhmm," I grumbled, trying to wring out my hair to little affect. I swept the tangled mess of blonde hair behind me, finally giving up and letting it drip down my back, waterlogging my clothes even more so.
"You like Forinasi?" I asked, trying to distract myself now from the foul weather. It was hard, though, when the mud sucked at your feet with every step you took.

Kalia laughed. "If you don't count half of the advantures I had...Then yes. It's a nice country." Kalia looked streight ahead. "Be careful were comming to the main part of the swamp."

...Be careful? I had already been being careful! I had thought that I had been doing... sort of... fine. I mean, I had fared alright. Up until I had gotten lost. But it got worse? And now I had to be careful?
Still, though, through the knot of all my confusion, I was tempted to ask Kalia of her adventures. Who? What? When? Where? Why? But that would have to wait. Instinctively, I pushed my questions to a part of my mind where I could save them for later.
"...Why do I have to be careful?" I asked, frowning.

"Ailiana...Two things. One, calm down! You were careful or you wouldn't have gotten this far, but, in the middle of the swamp it's even more dangerous than back there. Many creatures that you never even heard of live there, and the ground isn't as stable, Plus many natives to this area come there to hunt...and not all of them eat only animals...And Two. Don't even ask about my advantures, because I won't tell. Oh, and don't step there." Kalia pointed at a patch of grass to their left.

Don't eat animals?! If they didn't eat animals, and I was assuming Kalia didn't mean these natives were vegetarians, then that meant they ate...
Yelping, I realized that I hadn't been listening. My foot was just hovering over the patch of grass Kalia had just pointed out. Taking deep breaths, I saw how the toe of my foot was just a hair away from landing into the grass. Not trusting myself to have the capability to maintain my balance, I quickly threw myself to the side, landing in the mud, which quickly splattered up around me.
It was now physically impossible for me to get any dirtier. "Blech," I grumbled, staring down at myself. My gaze flickered around, and I half expected some sort of evil creature to pounce on me. Or a demon from a tree.
I stared at Kalia. She seemed to know her way around. My breath was quick, ragged. I thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest when I heard a rustle. It could have been anything; it was actually probably nothing. But my eyes widened as I gazed at my guide, silently asking her what to do. Get up? Stay where I was? Scream? Die from fright?

Kalia got some mud on her too. Great! "Get up, don't you dare stay where you were. Don't Scream. And you won't Die from fright?" She whispred and got her blade out. "Do you have a weapon of some sort? Anything?"Kalia was getting ready to see what it was.

Get up. Right. Get up. But my legs refused to listen. Biting my lip, I finally made the connection between muscle and mind, reaching my arm up to grasp a low tree limb and pull myself up. Step one complete.
I stared at Kalia as I bent down and pulled a dagger out of my boot. I didn't know how to use it; I owned it as a last resort. No one had ever taught me how to use a weapon. The dagger I held was plain; it was the only word possible to describe it. It's hilt was unfamiliar in my hand, though; a definite disadvantage.
Another small, faint rustle. Again, probably nothing. A bird rearranging its feathers, a small critter scurrying to get out of the rain.
Or a cannibal brushing up against a leafy branch.
"...You want to look first?" I asked Kalia, my voice a faint squeak. It was a cowardly thing to say; but I'd think about that later.

"Aperently I'll have to go first since someone doens't even know how to use a dagger!" Kalia whent to the bushes disapearing in the leaves. Suddenly she squicked and drew her blade. Another flash of steel shot in front of her. She was emerged in a battle. "Get away from here! Climb a tree! defent your self from there."

Crap. Crap. Crap.
I had absolutely no idea what to do. I'll admit that I totally and completely panicked; I didn't listen to Kalia. Stupid move. Very very stupid.
It wasn't my fault, really. I was too busy to hear her. Too busy being scared, surprised, shocked. Unable to move.
But this allowed me to see her attacker's face. And by doing that, I took note of how it was somewhat recognizable. And then a small memory flashed through my mind; walking down the cold halls of Sladick's castle, passing a man in uniform. His stare made me shiver all the more as I strode by, trying my hardest to avoid eye contact.
Bingo. I didn't know why he was there, or what he was doing around myself and Kalia. But I knew he wasn't on 'vacation' like I was. Chances were, he was doing some sort of business for Sladick.
Trying to find me, perhaps? I doubted I was that important.
All that I did know, really, was that I wouldn't be too sad if this guy was dead. My feet apparently reacted to this thought, carefully padding around Kalia and the soldier, trying their hardest to be silent. And then I was directly behind him, my dagger poised to stab, though I knew it wouldn't be with very much strength.
And then he whirled around, staring down at me. I managed to squeak something out. Maybe it was, "Help." Or perhaps, "Kalia." But all that was positive was that there was a huge man holding a baneful sword that glared at me while all I had was a puny dagger.

Ailiana's stupid move freed Kalia and alowed her to strike. Taking her long knife out she stabed him right in the back, twisting her knife as it went deeper. "No one attacs me, or my companions." She hissed once he's ear got to her ability to reach. "No die!" Kalia yelled as she took out another knife and nocked his head off. "You alright?" She asked wiping his blood off her face.
