Waefae sat in the Green Wolf's Tavern in a dark corner. He was waiting for Kal to show up. Kal wasn't late yet, but he was cutting it close to meeting time. Waefae waved a waitress over to his table and ordered a glass of red wine. He had agents at every table and on every block for a mile radius around the tavern. He also had two very intimidating body guards standing behind him. He fidgeted nervously. He didn't like being out of his domain in the woods or in his home town. He toyed with a throwing knife watching the other patrons who were also watching him nervously. Security was tight. Only a fool would try to get at him to kill him.

What in all the hells in all the dimensions was I doing? I was battering with the fate of an entire nation, I was toying with the lives of everyone who followed me, of everyone who claimed Forinasi as home. I was practically dancing with the Death Bringer himself, and I was laughing and enjoying myself all the while. Before me I could see the dull lights of the tavern we had agreed to meet in. In there, it could all change. Everything.
And I wasn't even nervous. In fact, I was giddy. In my hand I held the list of rules and demands I had thought up, scribbled on a paper as nondescript as the tavern I was about to enter. I rolled it back and forth in my hand as I pushed my way through the creaking door, showing me inside a place which seemed just as dark and dirty as the world outside. I glanced quickly behind me as my soldiers followed me inside. I had at least a dozen stationed all around the building, just in case. I had chosen to only allow two to come in with me, simply to keep things on a less hostile level. In the back of my mind I quietly wished I could have brought some of my more trusted friends with me, but seemed to be missing. I glanced at Waefae. Did you have something to do with that, you conniving wizard?
Sorry for the delay. I announced, sitting down across from him, never taking my eyes off of him. Here I went, bartering the world away.

"What took you so long? I was beginning to think that you had second thoughts about forming any sort of agreement with me," Waefae said calmly as he sipped his glass of wine. He looked at Kal from over the rim of his glass and began to analyze him. Could he trust him, no, but when did Waefae ever trust any one? Never. His eyes flashed red for a moment as he put down the crystal glass and watched the fire dance in its many facets. He pressed his hands together, forming a steeple, rested his chin on them, and proceeded to look at Kal, waiting for an answer.

Oh, well, screw you mister high and mighty, how about I take my offer and leave right now, huh? How would that make you feel? I can burn this tavern down on your head!
Despite my mental tirade, I simply frowned, letting out an involuntary snort. I had other things to attend to. And no I'm not going to tell you what, you pompous... er... mage...
... alright, that insult sucked.
I leaned back comfortably in my chair, waving off the tavern wench who came to serve me. The room felt heavy to me, the tension between the two of us seeming to engulf any other action around us. We were the center of attention, I could feel the numerous eyes on us. Perhaps I should be worried about those eyes.
I glanced over my shoulder at Peck and Sage, my two lonely guards. Sage flashed a reassuring smile at me, misinterpreting my actions. I wasn't looking for comfort, I was making sure they were doing what they were supposed to. I quietly wished Kaze was there with me.
I hope my absence didn't distress you.

Waefae raised his eyebrow as he caught a whiff of Kal's attitude. Clearly, this elf had no clue who he was dealing with. "Of course not," he said quietly, almost sinisterly. He put his hands onto the table and begin to toy with a knife. "Do you know what I could do to you should you double cross me?" he asked, looking deeply into Kal's eyes.

I eyed that knife for a short moment, trying to piece together the tavern's layout in my mind. How many soldiers could he have hidden around this place? More then me, perhaps? And, what if my soldiers met up with his wherever they were hiding? I imagined that would be kind of awkward... My eyes snapped back up to his face, and I pushed away the feeling of embarresment I had at letting my mind wander. He didn't know what I was thinking off. Or if he did, I was already damned anyway.
Probably the exact same things I could do to you if you double cross me, I shot back, crossing my arms. Hopefully this is enough to dissuade both of us from such an ignoble course, hmm?
I flashed him a forced smile, trying to bring a lighter mood into the dank, oppressing room. My mind played tricks on me as the fluttering shadows of firelight teased me into thinking they were Waefae's creations, waiting on their master's command to finish this meeting on violent terms. My sharp mind was plagued with fears and uncertainties. Perhaps it was time already to call this meeting short, before I let these emotions dictate my words and actions. Now was not the time to be weak minded.

Waefae stopped toying with the knife and smiled. "I don't think so, you see I don't think you fully understand exactly who or what you are dealing with. But that is not important. What is it that you want to gain from this alliance?" Waefae stared into Kal's eyes. This man was nervous, having second thoughts, and wanted to escape, but there was no going back now. The pieces were moving and Waefea would be the one to decide if they would become allies or not.
