"Neurosurgery would be your best bet, but I don't know how much that can help," Croissant admitted.
"I should've asked this earlier," Soren said, "but do you have any ideas of your own on how to rid yourself of your ailment?"

"I have no idea how to solve the problem," Mirage said. "But what is causing my problem" she asked, "and how would a surgery be beneficial? How long would I need to recover before going back to active duty for the queen, and how would we alert her to my state of health?"

"Surgery would be beneficial because a neurologist surgeon would be able to rearrange your neurons so that they'd work properly," Croissant said. "However... You are a magic user, yes? My only concern is that after the surgery... while your mind will function without problem, there is a chance that you might be completely incapable of using magic."
From the look of his face, not even Soren liked the sound of that.

Mirage moved around on the coach as she tried to understand what the doctor had said. "But not using magic would jeopardize not only myself during a mission, but would also make it harder to do the mission, and put other people in danger. Besides, what if the voices don't stop, and are part of me?"

"Then that's a condition called Skitzophrenia, and that's also a dangerous thing to have if it controls you," Croissant said solemnly. "And let's hope you don't have that."

"Okay, perhaps this information will help. I've always heard two voices inside my head for as long as I can remember. The third voice started talking to me today. If I do have Skitzophrenia, would an operation help? Also, why would an operation make me unable to use magic, magic that I was born with the ability to use?"

"Magic comes from the ability for your body to muster mental energy through your spellcasting, which translates that mere energy into something more extraordinary," Croissant explained. "That mental energy comes from your mind's neurons, which sense your need to use magic and send energy waves through your body, which enables you to cast spells. "As for Skitzophrenia... That is caused by a derrangement in the communication parts of your mind. It happens when that part of your mind, well, 'short-circuits.' You have excess and/or foreign energy jumping between neurons which cause you to hear voices and receive messages that you wouldn't normally receive."

"But why would a surgery make it impossible for me to use my powers? I don't have to cast a spell or anything like that; all I have to do is mentally tell myself to do it, and I disappear." Mirage did not like the sound of a surgery, but she also didn't like the idea of being a schizophrenic person.

Croissant merely shrugged. "The choice is yours. Of course, there is always the option of leaving it entirely alone and seeing what happens."

"Are there any treatments other than operation or letting be that would help and not hurt my magical abilities?" Mirage asked. She didn't like either option, and she needed help. "Are there any medicines?" she asked. That option didn't sound good, but if it helped and beat operations, then she would do it.

Soren spoke up. "If there is no other way, I'd suggest you actually try and confront whomever gave you this... rather curse. Surely the one who curses knows the cure."

Mirage really didn't like the sound of that idea. "Sure, just walk right up to Waefae and say, 'Hey, I'd really like it if you would heal me from this curse or whatever you put on me so I can get on with my life...' While we're at it let's just storm his castle and kill him! It's a suicide mission. I'm starting to think that becoming a mirage might be the best choice, because I either face not being able to use my magic, dying, or becoming death. Trust me on this one, Waefae's been trying to kill me for years; he ain't gonna help us." Mirage's face was quite red by this point, and she was really irate. "Do any of you know any wizards who don't want to kill people who work for the queen? I mean I hate wizards in general, but I think they're the only ones who can really help. That is unless the two of you are willing to brave all dangers and risk your lives and limbs in a suicidal attempt to make Waefae heal me.... savvy?" She grabbed a dagger and threw it into the wall.

Soren raised and eyebrow at the thrown dagger. Mirage, so it seemed, was becoming more and more frustrated with each useless suggestion.
Croissant sighed. "I'm afraid this is where I'm powerless to help you, lass. You're on your own now."

"Thanks for the attempt," Mirage mumbled as she retrieved her dagger from the wall. "If nothing else works, I might come back for that operation, but, I'd rather not lose my abilities. Who's up for a quest?" Mirage asked as she turned towards the door.

Croissant smiled. "Soren would love to accompany you, wouldn't you boy?"
The young artist looked a little surprised for the push towards the offer, but he took the spontaneity anyway. Grinning, he turned to Mirage. "Sure. If you don't mind a companion, I'd love to accompany you."
