"Soren," he said simply.
The final touches of his painting were put into place, and Soren looked back and examined his work. For a timespan of less than ten minutes, it wasn't a bad painting at all. Humming to himself, he took the canvas off the easel and hung it on the wall as a part of his gallery.
Then, he sat down again and faced Mirage. "Well, Miss Mirage. While you're here, is there something you'd like me to do for you? Perhaps a commission? Maybe just a friendly chat?"

"No need to be formal and call me miss, Soren," Mirage said as she took a step back. "Since you seem to have been commissioned by a lot of people, I was wondering if you would know anyone who may be able to help me solve a problem."

"I guess that would depend on the problem," Soren replied. "What have you in mind?"

"Well, I got hit by a wizard's lightning bolt, and now my powers won't work right. I'm not sure why it's having this affect on me, and I think it's turning me into a wraith or something," Mirage said, trying to be as vague as possible.

"Oh, I rather thought you meant for me to paint a picture for you," Soren said with a smile. "But that sounds like something complicated. If I understand you correctly off the get-go, I'd recommend you find a magnet and rub it over your head, and practice walking into walls and smiling."
It didn't sound like any typical advice someone would give.

Mirage looked at him like he was some crazy person, and she knew a lot of crazy people, herself included. "You're joking, right?" she asked incredulously. "I mean you can't be serious. I need real help." She was beginning to get a little irritated with Soren for even suggesting such a hair-brained idea as rubbing a magnet, whatever that was, on her head. "How is rubbing a magnet on my head going to help anything, I mean what if it's more than a lightening bolt, what if it's forming a symbiotic relationship with me, and every time the wizard uses magic, it sucks more of my life form away from me or turns me into a wraith permanently."

"Then, I'd suggest some kind of other wizard who'd be able to help you remove such a close attachment embedded within you, before you emerge a wraith to the world permanently," Soren suggested. "Are there any other specific details you'd like to share with me so that I may further help you?"

"You see, there in lies the problem. Whenever someone uses magic either as a weapon, or a tool to heal me or try and help me, it only makes the problem worse. I get migraines, even when I use my own powers, I will often times get very ill or a terrible headache. It causes more harm than good, and may even increase the rate at which I am becoming a wraith. Or, it will draw more of my life force away and wind up killing me." She was quite exasperated with the problem by this point and sighed.

"Have you tried not using magic for a while?" Soren asked, as he began setting up another canvas on his easel.

Mirage crouched on the ground and began drawing circles in the dust. "I no longer have control of what happens to my powers. I can use them and they will stop working. Even worse, I haven't intentionally used them in a little while, but they seem to have a mind of their own and work on their own power. I've also started to suddenly no longer be a solid, which is a power I've only used once, and is none of this should be happening without my commanding it..." She watched him prepare another easel.

"What about when you don't use magic?"
Soren put his finger on his lips in thought, staring at his blank canvas with the paint tray in one hand and his paintbrush in the other. After a moment, he began to paint again.

"I already told you. It tends to fluctuate on its own power, without me using magic," she said. Then, she became completely translucent, a mere outline of herself, and became completely non-solid. "Like right now, that's not supposed to happen, and I did not tell my powers to do this, through magic or any other means."

"Have you talked to anyone else about this?" Soren asked, taking note of that symptom as he painted.

"Yeah, an old friend of mine knows about this..." Mirage said. Well, he's more of a previous friend... she thought. She was still transparent and non-solid. "And now you know."

"Yes," Soren remarked, "thought it remains unclear to me why you would come to a complete stranger to relay this conflict of yours."
