Maybe- what's it to you?
I asked defensively. This is way things always went. From happy, loose, if a bit awkward, to tight, defensive, and ready for action. Never failed, just once a normal conversation would have been nice.
I've got scimitars, yeah.
I added, trying to calm myself down.

"Oh... Okay."
Pike continued to examine the temple ruins. But now, he was on his guard. No matter who it was, if someone had a weapon, he or she was a potential threat to him. He wouldn't be surprised if this woman was also after him. His... job, persay, wasn't exactly well-liked or well-understood for that matter.
Good thing he had trained as well. Then, he began to get a feeling-- a twitch in his mind's attention that faded away just as quickly as it had come. He knew that feeling. ...Now, where was it?

Something wrong?
I asked him, glancing around the ruins. He seemed to be acting a bit different now, and my hands automatically strayed to my weapons. I didn't see anything, but that wasn't always to good way to tell whether you're safe or not.

Pike didn't get the twinge in his mind again, so he sat down against a ruined wall, still uneasy with Narya's company now. He looked over at her, but only a second passed before he found his eyes wandering away from her again.
"So, um... What's your name?"

Naryae.
I replied simply, leaning back again and wrapping my cloak over my arms. The wind picked up some, rushing through the broken corridors, rustling the grass int eh fields next to us. I wished the storm would leave soon, the earth needed water, yes, but it also needed sunlight.
What's yours?

"Pike," he also replied simply. "It's nice to meetcha." Trying to lighten the tension, or so he hoped, he extended his hand.

Indeed.
I replied, taking his hand. I smiled warmly, also wanting to lighten this dark, amazingly boring day.
So... have any good stories?

"Well, I'm not exactly a storyteller..." Pike admitted. "...But what kind of story did you want?"

I dunno, one about yourself, I guess. What do you do for a living? You look like you've gone through a few good experiences.
I replied, making myself more comfortable. No better way to pass the time then with a good story. I brought my knees up, the scimitars continued in their loud, clacking noise at every move I made. The old pillar was starting to show signs of wear, I was surprised it still held my weight.

Pike was interested. A remark like that was blatantly not because she knew anything about him. However, a remark like that also meant she wanted to hear something about him that she didn't know about yet. And he was a casual person. Nothing was really wrong with telling a stranger about his life... He would be dead soon anyway.
"That pillar looks a little unsafe, you know..." Pike mentioned, noting its weardown. "Why don't we sit on a bench or something?"
No, he thought to himself, I'm not trying to pick her up, so to speak.

Actually, that might not be a bad idea...
I slipped off the pillar, landing awkwardly and off balance in my little miniature pile of rubble.
I've never actually explored much past this temple, but maybe if we go together, we'll be less likely to get lost. Or, maybe we will get lost, but at least one of us will be able to survive by reverting to cannibalism.
Ouch, OK, that was a bad way to start off a conversation. Mistakes like that weren't common for me, unless I didn't really care. Normally my day consisted of lulling men into a false security, then turning around and threaten to slit their throats unless I get what I want. In the situation which I was currently experiencing, this was not part of the scenario.

And it was very possible that Narya wouldn't lure Pike into such a false security, as the young man seemed to be one with a will. And that will didn't seem to include finding a woman for himself.
"Don't you have a story to tell as well?" Pike asked, as he began to walk, trying to calm his uneasiness down.

Maybe I do, but let's do it this way: if you tell me something about yourself, I'll tell you something about me.
I added, flashing him a smile. Still nervous, eh? I wondered what was making him so uneasy, and I could only hope he might tell me. In my experience, nervous people often had large groups of angry people hiding somewhere around the corner just waiting to hope out, yell surprise, and then proceed to kidnap them and me. As you can see, I have already had this experience.... several times, actually.

"Well, Ms. Naryae..." Pike began. "I have been called a liar over and over before." He grinned at her. "...And that is the first thing I will tell you. What about yourself?"

A liar eh? Well, then I guess I'll tell you that I'm horrible at distinguishing truth from lies.
I replied with a sweet, innocent smile. Pft, innocent, yeah, right.
Though, thinking about that, it might have been bad to tell you that. Oh well.
I added with a shrug, reaching into my magical pouch. I pulled out a ring, or, several rings actually, which were looped through each other. It was a puzzle, and the goal was to form all the loops in a single ring. My father had given it to me a week ago, and despite all the time I had put into the darn thing, I still hadn't solved it.
