I bit my lip in concentration, leaping backward and not even bothering to lift my swords. A simple dodge.
Not a bad start, but try something a bit more complicated.
I remarked, crouching down.

More complicated? That came with the heat of combat when the adrenaline rush came, as far as Pike was concerned. So...
Pike came at Narya again, twirled to one side of her and slashed diagonally downwards.

I spun back and to the left, feeling a breeze as the blades whipped by. He was getting close, and I wasn't sure if I should be scared or proud.
Nice dance moves, eh?
I laughed, sliding my one leg back in preparation for the the next dodge or counter attack.

By that time, Pike had already used the momentum of his swing to jump at Naryae for another strike. This time, he tried coming down on her from above.

Oh, sh-
I lifted up my scimitars in an x, praying he wasn't strong enough to defeat my block. This might get painful.

Pike came down with full force on Naryae, and the swords clashed together with a loud "clang". The moment seemed to be suspended there, as Pike seemed to float in the air, grinning at Naryae with a determined glint in his eye, and Naryae's swords crossed to block his strike.
But time doesn't really stand still without use of some sort of magic, so Pike found himself continuing to fall into Naryae as he came down.

I was going to say something about that grin, I really was. My mouth opened, eye narrowed, mind thinking of the greatest insult in the world. The words started to come, and then as I realized he was falling toward me-
Deirn it.
Was my very un-poetic reply.

And down the two sparring partners fell. Pike somersaulted off of Naryae and crashed upside-down against a tree trunk. He blinked as a few leaves fell past him. "...Um... Ow."

I burst into laughter, letting go of my swords and dropping them in the dirt. I lay in the dirt, holding my stomach as I enjoyed a nice, long laugh at Pike's expense.
Um, yeah, maybe we should work on your, um, style of attack there. It isn't to effective. Wait, no, I take that back. It's effective if you either plan on crushing your enemy, or making them die of laughter.
I rolled onto my stomach, resting my chin on my hands as I looked at Pike.
Yeah, definitely new attack style. Yours sucks.

"I haven't had need for it in a while," Pike said, flopping over to one side onto the ground. "All I've ever had to encounter were rogue, demonic spirits, and my orb makes quick work of them."
He sat upright and dusted himself off, setting his blade aside. "It's been a while since I've actually sparred or fought with someone else."

Huh, that's no excuse. A good swordsman practices with his blade everyday.
I replied, sticking my nose up at him. Yeah, doing that always won me lots of friends. Little know-it-all Naryae at it again.
We've got a lot of work to do. But...
I bit my lip, drumming my fingers on my chin. I was pondering. This is what it looked like when I pondered.
But maybe we could fit in your... erm... power in with your blade work...

"Well, I think it's a very good thing I'm not a good swordsman then, eh?" Pike chuckled, picking his blade up and sheathing it at his belt once more. "Nonetheless, you're right. We've got a lot of work to do if I am to be as skilled a swordsman as you are."
He thought about it. "...And that is on top of dealing with the rogue demon spirits that have been roaming this plane."
He pretended to swing his sword around in form, as if it would make up for some missed practices. He was startled when Naryae suggested that he try to fit his cursed channeling ability into his swordsplay. "...Are you sure about that?"

Well, that depends. Can you manipulate your... your orb? Like, maybe you could push it into the sword... or... or I don't know. Get creative. You can do that, right?
I asked, pushing up into a sitting position. I crossed my legs, watching him with a thin smile.

"I haven't learned how to channel a demon spirit into my actual sword just yet," Pike explained. "That takes more than a beginner-level channeler's skill to do successfully and without cause of some sort of injury or death..."
He unsheathed his sword again and examined it. The thought wasn't a bad idea, after all. But how could he do that with the little experience he had?

Death?
I squeaked, standing up and moving closer nervously. Death was a touchy subject with me, I didn't like, even though I'd dealt it out more than a girl my age should have.
M-maybe you shouldn't try that, then...
I mummered.
