Mirage starred at him. She didn't know what to say. Mirage began to dig a hole into the ground with the toe of her boot. "Sure I guess..." she stuttered. What! You can't be serious! Mirage shook her head to get rid of that thought, companionship was what she needed. She hadn't had a true friend in years, this could be what pulled her back to humanity. Perhaps this could pull her back to the path of sanity and light instead of always lurking in the shadows and living in the darkness. He'll only let you down again... the voice said once more. No, not this time, Mirage thought, he's different now.

I smiled, and hen I frowned, realizing she couldn't see the smile. That had become more and more of a problem over the last few weeks. For so long I couldn't have cared less if people could actually see the smile, but those girls, those same ones which I was looking for, had made something... click. I remembered clearly, the comfortable feeling they'd given me, the confidence of my own appearance...
Erm.. really?
I was surprised, raising an eyebrow as I realized she'd bee talking to me.
Well, uh, do you have anything to... disguise yourself or something?

"Yeah, it's called I can make myself look like a mirage or completely disappear if need be. Or I could just keep the hood of my cloak up at all times, your pick. Though I must say that ever since the assassination of the king and that wizard's lightning bolt my powers have been somewhat unreliable. I feel like I am becoming a Mirage... maybe you know someone who could help?" Mirage answered.

I could.
Shut-up. And since when did you start developing a personality?
Since I've decide I'm going to be stuck in this body until I die. If I'm here, I might as well keep you alive as long as I can. It's in my own interest of self-preservation.
... what does that have to do with you're insistent need to try and kill her?
I do not believe that was your question.
I wondered for a moment if actually all the voices I'd heard of the past few years were not actually real. Like my horse, could he actually talk? Was this demon even real? Maybe I was schizophrenic, maybe I was going insane. Maybe not, who cared anymore? As long as no one said "gees, you talk to yourself a lot," or something, everything would be dandy.
And for a split second, just a moment, I wondered just how much human emotions effect demons. He didn't like that though, and tried to strike the mind form my thought. How... unlike him.
Yeah, well, that's all fine and good, but wouldn't it be better if you didn't have to use your power at all? If you just, you know, blended in?
I remarked, glancing around in a casual manner.
So, keep your hood up, even though that usually just makes people more suspicious.
I realized with a small sigh I was currently being hypocritical. There was nothing more recognizable then a guy in a mask which is rather ironic, if you think about it, especially if he mask was intended to hide my identity in the first place.

"Right, just keep my hood up and try not to be conspicuous..." Mirage mumbled. "I think I can do that Daemon. So where are we going off to and what are we going to do when we get there?" Mirage asked Daemon as she began to walk down the street, resisting the urge to skulk in the shadows as she normally would.

Aw, heck, I don't know, I was following you.
I said, flashing hr a smi- eh, no, scratch that. I tugged at my mask, slightly annoyed by it at this point.
You found me in a bar, did you really expect me to have something interesting or important to do after getting dead drunk?
I remarked, walking casually as I could behind her.

"If you think I am dead drunk, you are horribly mistaken Daemon," Mirage replied, slightly irritated. "And you did not even have a sip of your drink so you are not drunk either," she continued. Mirage turned around and looked at him. "Ever thought of just not wearing the mask Daemon?"

Just because I'm not doesn't mean I wasn't going to be...
I muttered under my breath, not really enthused by the turn the conversation was taking.
And yeah, I have. And before you ask, yeah, I will, when I want to, got it?
I added, having the foresight to dice up her next question before she could spit it at me. I'd taken my mask off before, ironically almost always around ladies, but there was always a reason. And I prayed to the gods she wouldn't give me a reason.

"I wasn't going to ask you to take the mask off if that was what you thought I was going to ask. You just seem to be constantly aggravated by it is all," Mirage responded her voice more neutral than any real form of emotion. "So if you're working for the queen's army, what brings you out here?" Mirage asked curiosity taking over as she was slowly relaxing from the fight, and realizing that she was still bleeding she began to look at the wounds.

I glared at her but held my tongue, saving the best combacks for when I really needed them.
Well, I'm not exactly bound to the queen or anything. I'm just.. here when she needs me.
I said with a shrug. Truth was, the only reason I was with the queen was for the protection she and her army offered me. I might have betrayed the Revenge, but it seemed like Waefae was the kind to have a long memory, and I figured I might be on his list, just like Mirage.
You're worried.
Huh?
About her.
... you sound pretty ok with that.
He didn't reply to me...

Mirage mumbled something along the lines of whatever as she tried not to wince while removing a decent sized splinter from her arm. "You threw some nasty splinter in there Daemon...." she mumbled a mischievous look in her eyes and a quirky smile teasing her face as she looked at Daemon. "You wouldn't happen to have a first aid kit with you would you?" she asked almost randomly.

Did I have one? No, not that I knew of.
I can heal wounds.
... you choose now to mention this?
Why do you think you never died when you got that sword shoved through your gut?
... good luck?
If he could scream at me, I'm sure he would have, but he would have just been hurting his own ears as much as mine. And besides, I knew that if I tried to use the energy he gave me on Mirage, it could have dire consequences. But I did have an alternative.
The weapon that hurt shall be the blessing that heals.
I remarked, slipping off my black gauntlet and laying my tattooed hand on her arm.

Mirage gulped, was she ready to trust him this much, what if if turned her into a Mirage for ever? She had no choice though. "Go ahead...."

I gripped her arm tightly, whispering the words under my breath, I could feel the energy begin to grow, then...
...I released it, letting go instantly and hopping that the magic would follow my command and heal her, instead of killing her like I feared. With held breaths I stepped back, pushing my gauntlet back onto my arm. But I felt weak, far more weak then I should have.
I let go of some of my energy...
What?! Why?!
You did it wrong, you would have killed her.
I stood, silent, exhausted, stunned, and missing a little something I shouldn't have.
You could have killed me... no, both of us!
...

For a moment Mirage felt like she would die as the shock waves of magic tour through her body. The wounds closed and healed as she struggled not to faint once more. Mirage placed a hand on Daemon's shoulder in an attempt to steady herself, and once more stabilize her breathing. "I used to be able to handle magic. I guess that wizard's bolt really did me in on that aspect." She shook her head to clear it. She would probably have a migraine tomorrow morning but at least the wounds were better, right? "Thanks...." she muttered.
